Why anonymous profiles matter for second-income work

Public profiles are great for full-time freelancers and risky for people with a day job. Here's what a stealth profile shows, what it hides, and why.

Freelance marketplaces were built for people whose freelance work is their job. Visibility is the point. For a professional with a day job, the same visibility is the biggest risk: a manager, a recruiter at your company or a colleague can find you in seconds.

What companies need to see

To decide whether to talk to someone, a company needs their skills, seniority, the kind of industry they work in, evidence that the claims are true, and when they're available. None of that requires a name, a photo or an employer.

What can stay private

  • Name, photo, email and phone.
  • Current employer and exact location.
  • Day-job hours and contract details.
  • Background-check reports (companies see a badge and a date).

Reveal takes two yeses

Anonymous doesn't mean secret forever. When you and a company both want to go ahead, you agree to reveal your identities to each other, and only to each other. On Mondeed every reveal is logged, and your employer is blocked from finding you at all.
